Welcome to our first edition of Empowerment Through Knowledge! Through this series of short articles, we aim to introduce you to a number of tools, concepts, methods, and models that you can use to achieve success in business.
A Gantt Chart is a tool that allows you to visualise the schedule of a project. After dividing the project into manageable tasks, the bar chart aids in understanding the distribution of the workload by displaying each task’s targeted start and end point.
The tool gets its name from Henry Gantt who first designed and used such charts in the late 1890s to early 1900s.
Creating a Gantt Chart for your project can help you to:
- Manage your time better, increasing the likelihood that you remain on schedule.
- Identify whether the workload (number of overlapping tasks) is manageable at every point in the overall project timeline and to, where possible, reschedule certain tasks to make the project more manageable.
- Remain aware of the planned timing of tasks that may be dependent on the completion of other tasks.
- Communicate more clearly about the project with your team.
The correct use of a Gantt Chart is covered in our Level 6 Certificate in Project Management and the Project Management module in our Bachelor and Higher Diploma in Business and Management. For more information about these programmes, follow the links below:
