Two Versions Available:

  • Coaching (For Business)
  • Coaching (For Education)

This course includes two specialisation routes, one being for business, and the other for education. Learners will commence their studies together and complete Unit 1 and 2 together. After choosing your desired route, you will then specialise in separate groups during Unit 3.

The programme will provide the opportunity for learners to develop and apply coaching approaches, strategies and techniques that can be used for a wide range of individuals in and across organisations operating in different sectors. The programme will establish the connection between coaching and the overcoming of personal challenges, resulting in the achievement of professional performance enhancement, organisational goals, academic success and a greater effectiveness of any training provided.

The programme is designed to provide:

  • Opportunities for learners to develop a breadth of knowledge and understanding of subject matters related to the role of professional coach.
  • The development of underpinning skills, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in the role.
  • Understanding of the standards required by effective coaches.
  • Three units that provide the opportunity to apply the learning and develop skills in coaching.
  • Support for the achievement of personal and organisational goals and the development of an organisational culture around coaching to improve performance/training.
  • A base for continued learning and a desire to constantly develop as an individual, further improving knowledge, understanding and skills.

This programme is designed for individuals who want to enhance their communication skills through coaching techniques. These skills can be used during various types of formal or informal conversations besides equipping you with the ability to carry out structured coaching sessions. There are two versions available, however you can start the course first before deciding which route to take.

Coaching (For Business)

Ideal for leaders, managers, and professionals who wish to apply coaching within business/organisational settings to enhance performance, independence, retention, and professional growth.

Coaching (For Education)

For professionals working in education, training, and development. This version focuses on the learning of coaching skills in order to enhance one’s teaching or training style, both inside the classroom and when offering additional support.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • B2 level of English achieved in the last 5 years (English Language O-level grade 5+ or IELTS 5.5+ or equivalent

(MBS offers a free English Proficiency assessment if you do not have any of the above certificates)

  • Participants are expected to identify one or more individuals that they coach as part of their practice

Additionally, participants should

  • Have a MQF / EQF Level 5 or Level 6 qualification in a relevant subject area or other equivalent international qualification

OR

  • 2 years full-time relevant work experience with a level of managerial, training or people development responsibility

Unit 1: Principles and Practices of Coaching and Mentoring

The unit aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the differences between coaching and mentoring, their application and the principles and practices which can be used in coaching and mentoring situations. This will provide a basis for learners to build skills in these areas.

By the end of Unit 1, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the context of coaching and mentoring in organisations
  • Apply the principles and practices required for coaching and mentoring in organisations
  • Evaluate the impact of coaching and mentoring

Unit 2: Personal development for Coaches and Mentors

This unit aims to support learners in identifying their own development needs in the context of coaching and mentoring and to plan to meet those needs. It also emphasises the need for continuing professional development and review of own activities that will lead to continuous improvement as a coach and/or mentor.

By the end of Unit 2, learners will be able to:

  • Assess own skills, knowledge and understanding for coaching and mentoring
  • Prepare own development plan to support development as a coach and mentor
  • Review own performance as a coach/mentor on an ongoing basis

Unit 3: Coaching for Business/organisational Improvement

The aims of this unit are to develop coaching practice for those working with people in organisations. This will support increased knowledge, understanding and skills, needed for the personal and the professional development of the coachee and to facilitate organisational success.

By the end of Unit 3, learners will be able to:

  • Determine the role of coaching for people in businesses/organisations
  • Manage the coaching context and relationship
  • Provide effective coaching in organisations

Unit 3: Coaching for Education and/or Training

By the end of Unit 3, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the role of coaching in the development of teachers, teaching assistants, trainers or other education professionals.
  • Be able to manage coaching contexts and relationships in education.
  • Be able to effectively coach teachers, teaching assistants or educational professionals.
