I can understand your concerns about a ‘sense of abandonment’ and agree that greenery does need some looking after. I’ve been reading quite a bit about ‘community’ gardens lately. Spaces in towns that are either sponsored (financially) by companies or organisations in the area or who actually take care of the space themselves.
I love the idea of vertical gardens, or green walls. A student of mine did her whole essay on the development of these and in my last university we had a moss wall in the canteen. It was amazing.
