About this programme
This qualification is designed for learners who are seeking to enhance their job prospects in a range of industries and functions. The programme includes a core selection of fundamental management subjects such as Human Resources, Marketing, Finance, International Business, and Operations among others. The programme aims to develop key management skills and learners can progress to the final year of a bachelor’s degree course in the area of management studies.
This Extended Diploma option is 120 credits. [There is a Diploma option at 60 credits.]
Who is it for?
This Extended Diploma in Management programme is designed for individuals in employment who can be in various roles of responsibility (such as, but not limited to, managerial or supervisory positions) as well as aspiring managers, team leaders and owners of small businesses.

Each Unit carries a set of learning outcomes and assessment criteria. The learning outcomes set out what a learner is expected to know, understand or be able to do as the result of the learning process. The assessment criteria describe the requirements a learner is expected to meet in order to demonstrate that the learning outcome has been achieved.
Unit: Managing Communications
This unit aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of how communication takes place within and between different organisations you are in contact with. It will also highlight the potential pitfalls and the benefits of good communication practice.

Unit: People Management
In this unit you will develop the knowledge and understanding of what motivates individuals and teams and use this to review people management strategies used in your organisations. You will gain an understanding of leadership theories, motivational theories, the impact of structure and culture as well as other tools that can be used to empower people in the workplace.

Unit: Finance for Managers
This unit aims to introduce you to practical accounting and financial techniques that are useful to your business setup.

Unit: Business Organisations in a Global Context
This unit aims to develop your understanding of the issues and opportunities organisations face when operating within a global context.

- Review current issues impacting on business activities in a named country of own choice
Unit: Marketing Principles and Practice
This unit aims to develop an understanding of general marketing principles and their application to business. At the end of this Unit you will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

- Understand the application of the marketing mix in a specific business context
- Be able to develop a marketing plan for a specific product or service
Unit: Planning a Work-Based Team Project
This unit aims to develop project management skills in the workplace. At the end of this Unit you will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
- Be able to develop a proposal for a work based team project
- Be able to plan the work for the team project
- Be able to implement the plan for a work based team project
- Be able to present the results of the work based team project
- Be able to evaluate the project against the stated objectives
Unit: Personal and Professional Development
The aims of this unit are to develop your confidence to successfully manage your personal and professional skills in order to achieve your career goals. At the end of this unit you will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
- Understand how self-managed learning can enhance lifelong development
- Be able to take responsibility for own personal and professional development
- Be able to implement and continually review own personal and professional development plan
- Be able to demonstrate acquired interpersonal and transferable skills
Unit: Research Project
The aim of this unit is to formulate a research specification on a chosen topic, implement the research project, evaluate and present the research findings. At the end of this unit you will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
- Understand how to formulate a research specification
- Be able to implement the research project within agreed procedures and to specifications
- Be able to evaluate the research outcomes
- Be able to present the research outcomes

This qualification provides a flexible route for learners who:
- Have already achieved qualifications at a lower level
- Do not have a business or management qualification (but who may have qualifications in other areas) but who would like to learn more about business and management
- Have prior professional experience at the work place
- Are at least 19 years of age or older
- Learners must have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources to complete unit assignments.
